Peter de La Fuente

White Sands Hideaway

This painting was inspired by author Michael McGarrity, and was used as cover art for his first novel, Tularosa, and again in his 2015 historical novel,  The Last Ranch.  Please click the link at the bottom of the de La Fuente originals gallery page to listen to a fine interview with Michael and Peter, reflecting on their friendship and working together on five McGarrity novels.
The view is based on Michael's description of the Kevin Kearney homestead on the western edge of the Tularosa Basin. We are looking east to Sierra Blanca. with the northerm end of White Sands almost touching the black lava flow of the Malpais, which errupted near present-day Carrizozo. This natural ying-yang statement produced by nature has always fascinated the artist!
